Needs editing, but a quick, easy book.

Story: Royal parents leave the city to raise son in isolation because of antagonism towards their bloodlines. The story is of Nathan, their son, and his friend/girlfriend Ava.

Negatives: Typical coming of age story; this time with Superboy and his incredible powers and zero faults. Tragedy strikes and Superboy, who is a beginning mage, a master blacksmith, a journeyman warrior, an archer, and also only 14. Amazing, huh! Too bad the author isn't Super-editor. The book mixes up names, verb tense, and many other aspects of writing. The author writes as if he is 14 too, but his picture is of an adult.

Positives: Nice flowing story, a quick read, like-able friends and despicable foes. Your little ones can read this and stay innocent, though I'd wait for an edited copy to come out. This is a new release and needs some finishing touches. Though I picked on the guy in the first paragraph, he shows a lot of promise too and I'll keep an eye on his stuff.

Perhaps not as bad as my three stars indicate

Perhaps not as bad as my three stars indicate, but one thing that bothered me in both this and the sequel is how quickly everyone learned and did things. Making a sword in an afternoon, already sharp and deadly, but no real indication that anything but a forge was used. Becoming an accomplished swordsman in a few weeks, no problem. Unfortunately, it isn't just the main character that has this issue, it is most of the central characters, though for some this shows up in book two, rather than here. The writing often sounds like it take time for these characters to learn, but then you find out only a week or two has passed as the character goes from rank beginner to accomplished in whatever field. Magic is the fallback explanation, but I felt it was overused, and so distracted me from the story. If you don't have a problem with that quick learner aspect, then you will probably enjoy the book, as it is a decent story.

One advisory for parents though, the book contains a good deal of death and while off-page, there is also rape, so this may not be best for younger readers, meaning I would advise parents to read first. As I said, it is off-page, and while the repercussions haven't been fully explored by book two, I honestly hope the author deals with them later.

On a side note, book one seems better edited than book two. Book two seems to have many more grammar and usage mistakes than book one, perhaps the author was just rushed, or perhaps I didn't notice them in book one.

Again, overall a decent story and as part of Kindle Unlimited I will probably continue on with the series as it is released.

Really Two Stars, But The Rating On The Book Is Too High

WARNING: SPOILERS THAT ARE VERY PREDICTABLE
To Editing: The editing is miserable. You can read all the other comments detailing how painful it is to slog through the poor editing and try to figure out which character the author is talking about. No kidding, the author mixes up his characters' names from time to time, and that is highly annoying for me. Unfortunately that wasn't the deal-breaker.

The Dialog: Listening to these characters talk to each other was painful. Read this aloud and you will soon realize that no-one talks like this. The dialog is very stilted and awkward and pulls you out of the story. The characters use absolutely no contractions and their speech patterns are all the same. None of them talk differently from each other. Let me Explain: I like to use the word 'Obnoxious' and my friend likes to use the word 'annoying.' So we each say the same general sentence differently.
Me: That's obnoxious.
My Friend: That's annoying.
See the difference? That's one of the difference between an 'okay' or 'decent' author and the greats like Tolkien. Tolkien made his character's vocabulary and speech patterns differently. Some used slang and contractions, while others used flowery words and poetry to convey their thoughts. In this book, the vocabulary of each of the characters is basically the same.

The Time-Frame Issues: The author obviously didn't put any research behind any of the skills these characters posses. They master tough crafts like archery and sword fighting in a few weeks. I have been shooting a bow since I was ten and I still miss my shots, while the main character mastered archery in just over/under a month. In addition to that, the time-frame of the hero forging items is very unrealistic, as he manages to complete what should have taken months. The facade of magic doesn't explain Sharon's sudden combat abilities, nor does 'natural skill,. so the author has nothing to fall back on. In addition to that, I feel the facade of 'it's magic' is used much too often in this book. Often used to write away the glaring time frame issues.

The Main Character: The main character is... painful. He's supposed to be a young man struggling to find his purpose and lot in life. At least that's what the book wants you to think. He doesn't develop much after the killing of his parents, even though his abilities do. The side characters also suffer the same issue. He doesn't ever demonstrate psychological issues from the murder of his parents then the subsequent murder of his entire village. Or the bodies he has piling up. That either indicates that he's a sociopath or... poor writing(I believe it's the latter). This guy should be almost in shambles with everything that's happened, even if he manages to hold it together on the outside. Also, he never seems to ponder his parents or the villagers or the people he has killed death's. He should at least think of them a little or have nightmares about them, but no, he lives in perfect bliss. He should have Survivor's Guilt and a horde of other issues at this point. Either that or the main character is too dense to be having thoughts this high level. There are other flaws with the main character that you will pick up on in your reading of the book.

The Side Characters: They don't exist. Seriously. They are very basic outlines that weren't fleshed out with details. They have very basic backstories and two-dimensional personalities with one dominant trait. In addition, the characters don't develop much. Their abilities develop, but not the actual characters themselves.
Ava: Childhood friend who turns into lover. 'Smarter' than the hero but always needs to be rescued. Really hot. Becomes an amazing healers.
Sharon: Another childhood friend, but is older than him. Flirtatious and suffers issues from her kidnapping. Really hot. Becomes an amazing warrior.
Rose: Ava's spunky kid sister... yes that's all she is. She is used to provide 'comedic relief' with jokes that fall flat with the reader.

Compliments: This is an AWESOME idea, but executed very poorly. Honestly, with a little more editing most of these issues could be fixed easily. The more complicated issue is fixing the characters, which will need a lot of love to come to life. Rose is the most flat character, so she will be the hardest to fix. Unfortunately the main character will need a lot of help to actually convince me to read past the third book.

Minimize legal difficulties

As President & CEO of the Texas Hotel and Motel Association, I have known Stephen Barth as a revered professor of hospitality law at the University of Houston's Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, as a tremendously popular seminar leader, and now, I am pleased to say, as an outstanding author.
His book, Hospitality Law, provides an up-to-date information source that can teach practicing hospitality managers and students how to avoid and minimize legal difficulties they might otherwise face in the running of lodging properties. The book is well written, easy to follow, and best of all, gives examples from the actual operations of lodging and restaurant establishments. Especially strong are the sections on contract law, safety and security, and employment issues.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the legal issues that arise in the everyday decisions that a lodging property professional must make.

Law, Made it easy.

The authors made the legal issues easy to understand. I was out there looking for a such book for a long long time, and this is the book. This book helpes me to be prepared for some potential legal matters that I may have to face in a complicated casino hotel environment. I had a great opportunity to meet with the author Stephen Barth at the New York Hotel Show one year. He was a keynote speaker.

Great industry resource for lodging and hospitality managers. This book is far more practical than others Ive used or reviewed. Mr. Barth makes the book usuable for students, yet extremely practical for those already in working in the field. We now promote and encourage the use of this book with all those we work with.

Paul Jaminet, Ph.D., is a former astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and coauthor, with Shou-Ching Jaminet, Ph.D., of Perfect Health Diet.

It Really is a Perfect Health Way of Life

I think you can safely throw out all your other diet books and keep this gem ! It truly is Paleo perfected !! The Jaminets draw from their backgrounds as hard scientists , and also look at diets of cultures where longevity and excellent health are not uncommon , unlike our culture . It is not a difficult diet to follow at all , it is quite easy . We shouldn't say " diet " . we need to say " this is the way I will happily eat for the rest of my life ." So , lose the wheat bread and the processed junk food with the flavor enhancing chemicals . Embrace health , eliminate cravings , stop battling weight gain and feel great , without exercising like a maniac . Don't worry , there are VERY tasty gluten free breads out there !!

This was a very easy read and so informative. I learned a lot of very interesting things that make a lot of sense. I recommend this to anyone no matter what diet they are but especially Paleo enthusiasts.
