Code samples are provided for using the Notifier component for general use or for debugging, for user interface control tricks such as buttons that change color continuously or implementing the missing “radio buttons” component, using ListPicker and Spinner for list selections, and using the WebViewer to display web pages in your app. The book includes a large section on designing and building a sample real world application and finishes with a chapter on using the TinyDB database.

About the Author
Edward Mitchell has worked in software development, project and program management in companies from Silicon Valley to Microsoft Corporation. He has taught management and computer information systems courses at Gonzaga University and at a community college. He earned a B.S. in information and computer science from the University of California, an M.B.A. from Gonzaga University (2001), and an M.S. in software engineering from Regis University (2012). His interests include methods of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of software development including better tools (like App Inventor), software development and organizational process improvements that can lead to building the right solutions, faster and more reliably, and teaching others about software development concepts. In addition to this guide, he has written about a dozen books on technical subjects and has interests spanning 3D still and video photography to flying a hovercraft.

Excelent book!

Simple, but direct to the goal. If you can quickly starting to develop Android Apps this "trilogy" of books is the best way. The author explain very well the projects that has a clear line of development. I developed an App for an Arduino robot control using Bluetooth and the books were my guideline.

Immediately after receiving this "document" I wrote an email complaint to Amazon and asked for a refund of my money. This email was never answered by Amazon!

What I said (this is the short version) alerted Amazon that this publication is not a book; it is nothing more than an undocumented 4 page pamphlet that fails to even reference the origins of what is printed in this pamphlet.

Really Big and Heavy

The book arrived within a reasonable amount of time and was in excellent condition. However, to say that I was surprised upon receiving this would be an understatement; the book was HUGE and HEAVY! Chugging it to and back from campus to the dorms (about 1 mile or so) was a pretty daunting task to say the least. Also, the pages were so thin and fragile and the text was incredibly small. The benefit, however, is that some of the words are defined at the bottom of the page. If this will be staying on your bookshelf and you are a fan of Shakespeare, then by all means buy it. But if you are a student, I would not advise spending a couple of hundred dollars on a book you will be barely using--especially when you can just purchase the plays individually.
