The chilling second book in the innovative series from bestselling author Patrick Carman. Strange things are happening in Skeleton Creek...and Ryan and Sarah are trying to find out why. Ryan writes down everything in his journal, and Sarah records everything on her videocam. The two move deeper into the mystery they've uncovered, determined to discover the secrets buried in Skeleton Creek, in the conclusion to Patrick Carman's thrilling series. In this groundbreaking format, the story is broken into two parts -- Ryan's text in the book, and Sarah's videos on a special website, with links and passwords given throughout the book.

From Booklist
The mysteries of the abandoned dredge are finally resolved in this sequel to Skeleton Creek (2009). Forbidden to see each other, Ryan and Sarah continue to solve the mystery by using e-mail, video, and a whole lot of sneaking around, but time is running out as the town prepares to burn down the mechanical dredge. In the first book, readers could get by without seeing the supplemental videos on Sarah’s Web site, but in this go-round, the story suffers without them. The ending falls a bit flat, but the eerie mood throughout still makes this mystery a good read. Grades 5-8. --Courtney Jones

Fun read for tweeners with an interesting concept thrown in.
By Missy T
I bought this book because of my son's school book club had this on their list. It is an easy and fun read for your middle schooler. Plus, I like the whole concept of reading the story line and then it's augmented by video you go online to watch. I won't go into detail about the actual story, but if you like suspense then this is a great book. It's number 1 in a series of 4.

Fantastic!!!

I read the first book, Skeleton Creek, with my fifth grade class and the kids were so engaged! I read Ghost in the Machine in less than two days! It was spookier than the first, which I loved. I was worried that the second book would not live up to the hype, which is usually the case with sequels. Not this time. Ryan and Sarah work to uncover the mystery behind Skeleton Creek, all the while doing so behind their parents' backs. My students were BEGGING me to read this sequel with them when we return to school next week. Thank you, Patrick Carman, for bringing this story to life in such a unique format and presentation. Fantastic!!

Fifth grade boys go WILD for Skeleton Creek
By mb
I literally have ordered each of these books three or four times over the past five years. I cannot keep them on my library shelves for a day, and I have needed multiple copies for some eager readers. The videos are extremely motivating for my readers and they are the perfect amount of creepy/scary without being gruesome for intermediate grades. We love Skeleton Creek!
